Arsenal register interest in signing £80m star [Sky Sports]

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Jack Grealish but have been told Aston Villa won’t sell for anything less than £80m this summer.

Mikel Arteta knows he needs to strengthen the squad over the coming weeks if Arsenal are going to be competitive again after finishing way down in eighth position in the Premier League table this season.

We’re in danger of missing out on European football for the first time since 1995 but can book a place in the group stages of the Europa League if we beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday evening.

That would also help boost Arteta’s transfer kitty for this summer and it appears the boss is eyeing a rather ambitious target as Sky Sports claims Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Jack Grealish.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with Manchester United and he’s been tipped to leave Villa Park this summer after helping Villa avoid the drop on the last day of the Premier League season.

Sky Sports says a number of clubs are willing to pay around £50m-£60m for Grealish but Villa have made it clear they won’t sell for anything less than £80m, meaning he’ll be out of Arsenal’s reach.

Our finances have been decimated by the lack of Champions League football in recent seasons and Arteta will have very little to spend if we don’t qualify for the Europa League by beating Chelsea this weekend.

Even if we do triumph at Wembley, Arsenal can’t afford to pay £80m for a single player this summer so any move for Grealish is off the table unless Villa get more realistic with their asking price.

It’s a shame as I think he’d be an excellent signing for Arsenal. We desperately need to add some creativity to the side and Grealish would certainly help in that regard after supplying 10 goals and 8 assists in a poor Villa side this season.

He’s a terrific ball carrier, great passer, has bags of skill, works hard, is a goal threat and has that little bit of guile around the box that Arsenal lack. He can also play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so I think he’d be a superb addition if we could somehow lure him to north London.

However, I’m not getting my hopes up unless Villa lower their demands…..and of course we need to win at Wembley before we even dream about signing players like Grealish.
