Arsenal closing in on £55m double swoop as Emery kicks-off spending spree

By on July 18, 2019

It looks like Arsenal’s summer transfer business is about to kick-off as reports suggest Unai Emery is closing-in on a double swoop for William Saliba and Everton Soares.

Emery has only managed to land Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli so far this summer but the boss has been strongly linked with Saliba in recent months and it seems a deal is on the verge of completion.

According to reports in France via the Metro, the 18-year-old Saint-Etienne defender has decided to snub interest from Tottenham Hotspur in favour of joining Arsenal this summer.

We were expected to complete a £27m deal last week before Spurs tried to hijack the move by offering a slightly higher fee to Saint-Etienne and improved contract terms to the player.

However, Peuple-Vert claims Saliba still wants to join Arsenal and the French publication says we’ve now reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne that will see us pay an initial fee worth just under £30m [€33m].

The report says a further £6.3m [€7m] in add-ons will be due if Saliba meets certain criteria while a 20% sell-on clause has also been included and the centre-back will be immediately sent back to Saint-Etienne on loan once the deal is completed.

If true, it sounds like Saint-Etienne have got themselves a great deal for the youngster but Arsenal should be please too as Saliba has a huge future ahead of him and I think he’ll prove to be an excellent signing.

We’re also desperate to bring in a winger this summer and after failing to agree deals for the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser, Everton Soares has emerged as a prime target for Arsenal.

The Sun are now citing Brazilian journalist Sergio Araujo as claiming that Arsenal representatives have arrived in Porto Alegre to secure a deal for the Gremio attacker. This is supported by Sport Mediaset reporter Andersinho Marques who also claims Arsenal doctors are in Brazil to perform medical checks on Everton.

It’s claimed by The Sun that Arsenal will pay an initial £25m with a further £11m coming in add-ons and Everton is expected to undergo a medical with the deal set to be announced within a few days.

The 23-year-old confirmed after the recent Copa America final that he had an offer on the table and it seems Arsenal were the mysterious club in question, if these reports are accurate.

Everton is one of the most exciting young attackers in Brazilian football and he can play anywhere across the front three so he’d be an excellent addition to the squad if we can get this proposed deal finalised.

So it looks like it’s going to be a busy few days as Arsenal push to wrap-up a double swoop for Saliba and Everton that will cost an initial £55m. Emery will then turn his attention to bringing in a full-back and midfielder.
