Journalist: 21-goal star wants to join ‘perfect’ Arsenal, deal can be done at £25m

According to The Sun, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan claims Hakim Ziyech is keen on a move to Arsenal as the winger prepares to leave Ajax for £25m this summer.

Unai Emery is gearing-up for a busy few weeks as he looks to revamp the team following a poor campaign and the Arsenal boss in the market for a new winger as we desperately need to add some width to the squad.

The likes of Ryan Fraser and Yannick Carrasco have been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates recently while Ziyech has also been touted as a potential target by the media following a superb campaign in Holland.

The 26-year-old played a key role for Ajax as he scored 21 goals and provided a further 24 assists in 49 appearances to help win a league and cup double while they also came agonizingly close to reaching the Champions League final.

Ziyech’s superb form has led to speculation linking him with a move this summer and Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has already confirmed the winger is expected to leave Amsterdam before the start of the new season.

Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan has now fuelled the rumours linking Ziyech to Arsenal after claiming the Moroccan international is keen on a move to the Emirates as he likes our style of football.

Kraan also names Man City and Barcelona as the type of footballing teams Ziyech would like to play for but neither of those sides are currently being linked with the player so it looks like Arsenal are well placed to sign him if we formalise our interest.

However, while the Dutch journalist says Arsenal would be the ‘perfect’ move for Ziyech, he suggests Emery may hold off bidding for the winger while Mesut Ozil is still on the books.

Van der Kraan told the Sky Sports Transfer Window Podcast:

“I know that the player is keen on a club like Arsenal, who have always played good football. Manchester City also under Pep Guardiola play a kind of Ajax style of football, as do Barcelona. But not all of these clubs will line up for him.

“I think that if Arsenal did not have Mesut Ozil, they would have been the perfect club for him. But now, he has to choose between clubs in the Bundesliga, two or three clubs.

Emery is working on a tight budget this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League so he may have to offload high earners like Ozil or Henrikh Mkhitaryan before making any big-money moves in the market.

However, The Sun says Ziyech has a £25m release clause written into his contract so I think that would be an excellent deal in today’s market. Let’s hope we can find a way to afford him as Ziyech would be a terrific addition to the squad.
