From Italy: Arsenal make £37m offer as Emery looks to pull-off double swoop

By on June 3, 2019

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have tabled an opening £37m [€42m] offer to sign Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet in a double deal but Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has already knocked back the proposal.

Unai Emery knows he needs to undertake major work on the squad this summer as we’re miles away from competing for the title and there is expected to be plenty of incomings and outgoings over the coming weeks.

We desperately need to strengthen the defence after conceding a whopping 51 goals in the Premier League alone this season. Shkodran Mustafi will hopefully leave after a disappointing spell in north London while Laurent Koscielny’s future is also in doubt.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks but SampNews24 claims Arsenal have made Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen a key target.

The 23-year-old has been one of the best young defenders in Serie A since joining Sampdoria from FC Twente two years ago so he’d be an exciting addition to the Arsenal squad if we could lure him to north London.

We also need to bring in a replacement for Aaron Ramsey after he joined Juventus on a free transfer while the futures of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are in doubt so we need to sign an attack minded midfielder.

The Italian outlet says Arsenal have now identified Dennis Praet as a possible signing this summer after being impressed by the 25-year-old’s performances for Sampdoria this season.

SampNews24’s report suggests that Arsenal scouts have been keeping a close eye on the duo this season and we’ve now formalised our interest by testing Smapdoria’s resolve with a £37m offer for the pair.

However, we’ll have to dig a little deeper if we want to get a deal agreed as the report says Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has already rejected our offer and is demanding closer to £49m for the duo. AC Milan are also reportedly chasing both players so it seems Ferrero is hoping to generate a bidding war.

Football London are also carrying the story – which they say originates from the paper version of Tuttosport – so it seems the media in Italy believe Arsenal have made a serious play to sign Praet and Andersen.

They aren’t top level players by any means but they are both hugely talented, young enough to develop further at Arsenal and would strengthen two problem areas so I’d welcome their signings if we could pull off a double deal.
