Arsenal make mega £100m offer as Emery looks to pull off major late coup
According to Mundo Deportivo via the Mirror, Arsenal have offered a package worth £100m to sign Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele as Unai Emery looks to pull off a major coup during the closing stages of the window.
Emery has already blown his initial £70m budget on five new signings so he’s needing to offload fringe players like David Ospina, Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson, Joel Campbell and Calum Chambers to free-up more funds.
The boss is reportedly in the market for another centre-back to fix our vulnerable defence but a wide attacker is also on the agenda and Dembele has been touted as our prime target throughout the summer window.
The French international has been tipped to leave Barcelona after enduring a tough debut campaign at the Nou Camp following his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
The 21-year-old was plagued by injury problems and started just a handful of La Liga games under Ernesto Valverde, and he looks set to fall even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Malcom from Roma.
Speculation suggests Dembele could be eyeing a move in search of regular football and he fuelled talk of a switch to Arsenal after attending a dinner party in London with the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last week.
It looks like we’ve now stepped-up their interest as the Mirror are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that claims Arsenal have offered to pay £10m to take Dembele on a season long loan.
The Spanish publication says Arsenal have agreed to then pay £90m next summer to make the deal permanent meaning the package would be worth £100m to the Catalans – although I’ve seen other reports suggesting the figures would be closer to £89m [€100m].
Either way, this would be a sensational coup if Arsenal could pull it off as Dembele would be an excellent addition to the squad and offer us some genuine pace/quality on the wings – something we lack at present.
However, we could face competition from Manchester United as the report says Jose Mourinho is also eyeing Dembele as a potential replacement for want-away attacker Anthony Martial.

If the Red Devils beat us to Dembele’s signature then I’d love to see us make an audacious swoop for Martial. He’s also a huge talent and would thrive at the Emirates once he’s unshackled from Mourinho.
It’s going to be an interest few days but let’s pray we manage to sign a top class attacker as that would top off a solid summer.
