Arsenal ready to sign £17.5m German star, Mislintat has made his a key target
According to Bild via the Sun, Arsenal want to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s £17.5m goalkeeper Bernd Leno after Sven Mislintat identified him as a replacement for Petr Cech.
Our new Head of Recruitment has been tasked with overseeing our summer transfer business and a new number one is a priority as Cech’s form has deteriorated dramatically over the past two years.
David Ospina is also not good enough to command the first team jersey at Arsenal so we need a reliable stopper this summer and Leno has emerged as a prime target.
Bild, via the Sun, are reporting that Mislintat has identified Leno as the man he wants to take over from Cech and the player has already informed Leverkusen that he wants to leave this summer.
The German publication claims that Leno has activated a release clause in his contract that means he can leave for £17.5m – which is an excellent deal in today’s market.
It’s reported that Leverkusen have moved swiftly to replace the 26-year-old after agreeing a deal to sign Finland keeper Lukas Hradecky from Eintracht Frankfurt so everything is in place for Leno to leave.
However, we aren’t the only club showing an interest as the Sun say Atletico Madrid and Napoli are also chasing the German international so we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature.
Let’s hope Mislintat is able to use his powers of persuasion to lure Leno to the Emirates as he’d be an excellent addition to the squad and solve a problem area that’s become a real concern this season.
