Arsenal scouts watch winger ahead of possible £6.3m swoop
According to the Sun, Arsenal have stepped-up their interest in signing Andrija Zivkovic after scouts made another check on the £6.3m-rated Benfica winger at the weekend.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Arsene Wenger’s future, it looks like the club are pressing ahead with their preparations for the summer and a new wide-man appears to be on the agenda.
I’ve said for several weeks that the squad has lacked any real width for some time but we may rectify that in the summer with Zivkovic once of several wingers to be linked with a move to the Emirates.
The 21-year-old has developed in to one of the most exciting young attackers in Portuguese football since joining Benfica 18 months ago and he’s caught the eye of Arsenal scouts.
The Sun claims that representatives from the club have been keeping a close eye on Zivkovic this season and were once again in attendance as he scored during a 5-0 win over Maritimo on Saturday night.
Benfica are known to sell their players if the price is right and the newspaper suggests they will cash-in on Zivkovic if £6.3m is put on the table – which seems like a very reasonable amount of money in today’s market.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running as the Sun says Manchester United are also tracking the Serbian international so we’ll face some stiff competition if we decide to make a move for the winger.
Zivkovic is a real talent but I’d consider him to be ‘one for the future’ so I personally hope Arsene Wenger [or whoever’s in charge this summer] has a more established name in mind if we’re to sign a top class winger.
