Arsenal star set to miss 7 games after suffering fresh injury setback

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are poised to be without Shkodran Mustafi for the next seven games after he picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty.

Mustafi started for Germany during their 5-1 World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan on Sunday night but was forced off before half-time after suffering a hamstring injury.

The centre-back was running alongside Ramil Sheydaev when he pulled-up clutching his leg in the 34th minute and was immediately replaced by Matthias Ginter.

Germany coach Joachin Low suggested after the game that Mustafi has torn his muscle and was facing an extended spell on the sidelines. Low is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“With Mustafi it seems that it is muscle tear or some muscle fibre tear. In any case it could force him to a longer break.”

Mustafi is back in north London being assessed by Arsenal’s medical team and an official statement on his condition or how long he’ll be out for hasn’t been released yet.

However, the Mirror claim that Arsenal fear Mustafi is facing a lengthy lay-off that will see him miss our next seven fixtures – which will come as a huge blow as we head in to a busy period that sees the club playing in three separate competitions.

If the newspaper is correct, then Mustafi will miss Premier League games against Watford, Everton, Swansea and Manchester City, our League Cup clash with Norwich and our Europa League double-header with Red Star Belgrade.

The German’s injury leaves us short of options at the back as Laurent Koscielny has been out with an Achilles injury while Calum Chambers is also on the sidelines with a hip problem.

It means Per Mertesacker and Rob Holding are in-line to start alongside Nacho Monreal in the back three at Watford this weekend.
