3-4-2-1 – Nelson & Sanchez start: The Arsenal XI that will thrash Doncaster

Arsenal entertain Doncaster Rovers at the Emirates in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night. Here is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger select….

Goalkeeper: Ospina

Ospina dropped a clanger against Cologne last week but we need to protect Cech for the more important games so the Colombian international should come in to the starting eleven tomorrow.

Defence: Chambers, Mertesacker, Holding

Wenger has confirmed that Chambers will be given his first start for the club this season after recovering from injury so I’m keen to see whether he can take his chance.

Obviously we should rest Koscielny while Monreal is also due some time off so I’d bring Mertesacker and Holding in to the back three that should be more than capable of dealing with Doncaster.

Midfield: Nelson, Wilshere, Elneny, Maitland-Niles

It’s finally time to give wonderkid Reiss Nelson his full debut. The teenager has been tearing it up with the under-23s this season and made a ten minute cameo in the Europa League last week so I hope Arsene starts him tomorrow.

Maitland-Niles is expected to be given another chance to impress. The youngster looked far more comfortable in midfield than in the left wing-back role against Cologne but we need to rest Kolasinac.

Ramsey and Xhaka should also be given a breather so Elneny will come in to the side while Wenger has confirmed Wilshere will make his first start for Arsenal in over a year. Let’s pray he comes through the game unscathed and looks sharp.

Attack: Walcott, Sanchez, Giroud

Sanchez was named among the substitutes against Chelsea so we could see Arsene start him tomorrow. It might be a little embarrassing for Alexis to play with the ‘B team’ but he’s clearly got to work his way back in to the managers good books after trying to leave in the summer – plus he’s not 100% fit yet.

Ozil won’t be risked due to a minor knee injury while Welbeck has been cruelly ruled out for a month with a groin injury so Walcott should get a rare start in attack. Let’s hope he makes the most of it as he’s been woeful so far this season.

Lacazette didn’t train today as he was given the day off along with a number of other first team regulars so we should see Giroud come in up front. Young striker Akpom could be named among the subs.

This would be my team on Sunday:

Despite changing the entire starting eleven that faced Chelsea, we’re still able to field a strong side packed with international’s so this team will have more than enough to batter Doncaster tomorrow.

    Can I ask you a question,, Why do think that Mertersacker can play at any level outside of a local pub team ? The guy is slower than molasses, he the gets other defenders around him in problems because they are aware of how painfully slow so they try and compensate for him and end playing the opponents attacker on side. I really feel for Rob Holding

    Another question if I may,,, Where ooh where is Jeff Raine Adelaide, doesn’t look like he’s one of Wenger’s favourites anymore, I do know that he is one of the brightest and best of our young players, arguably the most talented of the pack, yet it seems he is not being given the chances to showcase that talent. I wonder whats going on there
