Player talks-up Arsenal move amid reports of £10m swoop
CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has talked-up a move to Arsenal amid reports Arsene Wenger is readying a £10m offer.
The boss has confirmed he’s in the market for further additions before the window closes and central midfield is an area we should be looking to strengthen.
Golovin was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates earlier in the summer when the Mirror claimed we were closing-in on a £10m deal that could see the youngster move back to CSKA on a season-long loan.
Things went a little quiet but the rumours picked up again earlier this month after CSKA general director Roman Babaev revealed that while no offer has arrived from Arsenal yet, we did send scouts to watch Golovin during the Confederations Cup.
Babaev is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“No, CSKA did not receive an offer from Arsenal. I admit that the London club’s scouts viewed Alekandr [during the] Confederations Cup. He was one of the best parts of our team.”
The Russia international has now spoken out amid the speculation linking him with a move to the Emirates and Golovin has admitted he’s flattered to be linked with a club like Arsenal and would jump at the chance of playing in Europe.
Golovin is quoted by TeamTalk as saying:
“Of course, I will be pleased that such a club [Arsenal] is interested in me.
“In my opinion, every football player, regardless of their age, wants to play in Europe – I’m not an exception.”
Wenger is obviously in no rush to do a deal to sign Golovin but he could be waiting to offload some of his fringe players such as Jack Wilshere or Lucas Perez before formalising his interest.

The 21-year-old looks to have a big future ahead of him so I’d be glad to see us secure his signature but it’s probably best he returned to CSKA on loan to continue his development for another year as he’s not going to get regular game-time at Arsenal.
