Arsenal to table £40m bid as Wenger confirms interest in attacker

By on June 3, 2017

According to The Sun, Arsenal are set to launch a £40m bid for Riyad Mahrez after Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in the Leicester City attacker.

The boss is getting to work on arguably the most important summer of his career as he looks to build a squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge next year after signing a new two-year contract.

Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but a familiar name has emerged as a target again with Wenger tipped to renew his interest in Mahrez this summer.

We made attempts to sign the Algerian international last summer after he helped fire Leicester to the title but he decided to stay at the King Power and play in their first season in the Champions League.

Mahrez saved his best form for Europe but failed to replicate the kind of form in the Premier League that saw him voted as the PFA Player of the Year in 2016.

The 26-year-old submitted a formal transfer request last week which led to speculation that Arsenal would make a renewed attempt to sign him and Wenger has now confirmed his interest in the attacker – although he insists no bid has been made…yet.

The boss is quoted as saying by The Sun:

“We have not made a bid for him but personally I like the player, yes.

“I think he had a huge impact at Leicester when they won the championship, like everybody else.

“It’s been a different season this year but it doesn’t take anything away from his qualities.

“Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen.”

Leicester are in a decent bargaining position as Mahrez has over three years left on his contract, however, The Sun claim that Wenger is ready to test their resolve with a formal £40m bid.

I think that’s a fair offer so hopefully Leicester will give it serious consideration as I think Mahrez would be an excellent addition to the squad and he’d give us another top class option in the final third.

However, I’m not too sure where he’d fit in to the new 3-4-2-1 formation unless one of Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez are leaving so I just hope Wenger isn’t eyeing Mahrez as a replacement for one of our star duo.

I THINK MAHREZ CAN PLAY IN OUR NEW FORMATION , HE WILL PLAY AT LEFT WING WHILE OOZIL PLAY HIS RIGHT WING THEN SANCHEZ PLAY IN THE MIDDLE

Mr Wenger, please Sale Sanchez and Ozil, Buy Mahrez and Leman and other guys. First not qualifying for champions League is due to them. Second paying them too much will create unhappiness in the team. Sanchez and Ozil do not take the ball from defence to score
