Arsenal handed major boost in pursuit of prolific 37-goal striker
According to the Independent, Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette after his proposed move to Atletico Madrid appeared to collapse.
Lacazette has been strongly linked with Arsenal for some time and the Daily Star reported in April that we were well positioned to sign the striker if he opted for a move to England this summer.
It looked as though we’d missed out as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed earlier this month that a verbal agreement had been found for Lacazette to join Atletico as long as their transfer ban was lifted.
However, the Independent are reporting that we’ve been handed a fresh hope of signing the French international as it was confirmed earlier today that CAS have rejected Atletico’s appeal so they’ll be unable to register any new players until January 2018.
It means Atletico could still theoretically sign Lacazette but he wouldn’t be able to be registered to play for them until the second half of next season and the striker is highly unlikely to go without football for five months in a World Cup year.
Therefore, Lacazette is back on the market and Arsenal would be mad not to do all they can to lure him to the Emirates as we desperately need a top class finisher such as him.
The 26-year-old enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s top marksmen after scoring 37 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season and we could certainly do with that kind of threat in front of goal.
Can you imagine Lacazette up front with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil [if they stay!] playing just behind for Arsenal next season? It’s a mouthwatering prospect.

However, there is one major issue as Lazacette has publicly stated he wants to play Champions League football when he leaves Lyon so Wenger has some persuading to do if we’re to land the prolific hitman.
We won’t be the only team in the race for his signature and there will be plenty of other clubs who are able to offer Champions League football so I think it’s going to be difficult to lure Lacazette to north London.
