Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has surprisingly been called up for Spain’s upcoming friendly with Colombia and their World Cup qualifier with Macedonia.

Monreal has been a regular with Arsenal all season and has been playing in a new role in the back three in recent weeks with Kieran Gibbs playing out in the left wing-back position.

Monreal has got the nod over Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and will compete with Jordi Alba for the left-back spot, but the Barcelona man is favourite to start.

However, once again there is no place for Hector Bellerin in the senior squad as he’s had to make do with a place in the under-21’s.
