“It’s possible” – World class Arsenal target drops hint over move

By on January 20, 2017

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has confirmed this could be his last season with Borussia Dortmund, opening the door to a potential switch to Arsenal in the summer.

Aubameyang has developed in to a world class forward in recent years having netted an impressive 100 goals and 32 assists in his 165 appearances since joining Dortmund from Saint-Etienne in 2013.

The Gabon international has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and the Mirror once again claim today that Arsenal are among the clubs who are interested in signing the striker should he come on the market.

Well it looks as though he could be eyeing a move this summer as the 27-year-old has hinted to reporters that this may be his final year with Dortmund, despite the fact his contract doesn’t expire until 2020.

The likes of Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels have all joined Bayern Munich from Dortmund in recent years but Aubameyang insists he won’t be following his former team mates to the Allianz Arena.

He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“It is possible that in June a club comes, which finds a solution with Dortmund, and I go,”

“No one can foresee the future. Now I’m in Dortmund and I love it here. But I can not say that I will stay for two more years, or five or ten.”

“I’ll never go to Bavaria, that’s for sure. That would be too hard for the Dortmund fans. No matter what they offer me, I would say no. Absolutely no way.

“I’ve played for St. Etienne and the fans told me I should never go to Lyon. So I didn’t go.”

For me, he’d be the ideal striker to play in our system with Sanchez moving back out to the left or if the worst happens and the Chilean doesn’t agree a new deal, then Aubameyang would be the perfect replacement.

However, there are a few hurdles to overcome. Firstly, Dortmund are likely to demand a HUGE fee for his signature and I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted well in excess of £70m, which would be out of our reach.

Secondly, obviously we aren’t the only club being linked as the papers are also saying that Manchester United and particularly Real Madrid are keen on Aubameyang and they are the two most powerful clubs in the world.

Even the most optimistic Arsenal fan will know we can’t match those two in terms of wages or transfer fee so if they want him badly enough, then we’ll probably have to let them fight it out among themselves for Aubameyang’s signature.
