Update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Mustafi, Draxler & Mahrez [BBC]

By on August 4, 2016

Well respected BBC journalist David Ornstein has taken to Twitter to offer an update on Arsenal’s reported interest in Shkodran Mustafi, Julian Draxler and Riyad Mahrez.

Let’s start with Mustafi and we’ve been strongly linked with the German international in recent weeks with Arsene Wenger reportedly making him his top target as the boss looks to sign a new centre-back.

The Mirror are one of several media outlets who have claimed that Mustafi is keen on joining Arsenal with Valencia willing to do business at around £25m, while the Daily Mail suggest that we’re lining-up an opening £15m offer.

While Ornstein confirms that we do have an interest in the 24-year-old, he insists no offer has been made as yet and he says we could face competition from the likes of Chelsea.

If true, we should act quickly to get a deal agreed as the last thing we want is having to go up against Chelsea. Valencia are currently in London on their pre-season tour so there is no reason why we shouldn’t be seizing the opportunity to thrash out a deal this week if Arsene really does want him.

No interest in Draxler or Mahrez

Ornstein went on to confirm that we want a striker without naming any names but the BBC journo revealed that Arsenal have NO interest in signing either Draxler or Mahrez.

We’ve been strongly linked with Mahrez this summer and reports earlier this week coming from Algerian outlet Le Buteur claimed that the Leicester attacker agreed to join Arsenal following talks with Wenger.

The paper said that a potential £38m deal was in the offing after Mahrez had rejected Leicester’s offer of a new deal by informing them he wanted to move to the Emirates.

The Julian Draxler to Arsenal rumours started after he did an interview with Bild earlier this week where he revealed that he’d told Wolfsburg he wanted to leave this summer and Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol claimed he wanted to join Arsenal.

Fans have been discussing which of Mahrez or Draxler we should be signing and discussing how we’d line-up with either of them in our team, however, it looks like we’ve jumped the gun a little as Ornstein insists Arsenal have no interest in either player.

For those who aren’t aware, Ornstein is regarded as the ‘mouthpiece’ for Arsenal on Twitter as it’s widely thought he is fed information by the club, so that’s always worth noting when he comes out with something.

His comments don’t necessarily mean we don’t have interest in Mahrez or Draxler, it just means that’s what Arsenal want us to believe right now. It could be true, or perhaps the club want to keep things quiet for now. Who knows.

Let’s just see what the next few weeks bring us….

utterly toothless in the transfer market. the attitude seems to be one of “if we pay market value we’ll bankrupt the club”.

It goes like this – Lukaku to Chelsea, Costa to Atletico, Griezmann to Arsenal.

Wenger should know that, every Arsenal supporters are waiting for the good news, and if he does not sign a striker and a defender, he should make sure that, he will win most of the games, because the supporters are after him this time and he will not have an excuse again, even those who used to support him will turn to him and ask him, why he did not buy players in time? As a human being involved in sport, sometimes he has to listen to what the fans say, supporters are not saying buy so and so, but they want Wenger to buy quality players to improve Arsenal attack. They are not worried of who he is going to buy, but they want someone with experience, especial up-front and at the back. Wenger should not be arrogant as usual, he must have an open mind. He need to use the money to improve the team.

Chill out Gooners. We all know the Wenger way and im not alluding to the hysterical & the over dramatic reactions made by some quarters of our Fanbase. The way i understand the Professors reasoning is that because we ultimately cant compete in terms of player fees and players wages to some extent he waits until the clubs with more cash to burn have made their moves so he can then make a move for his own targets without the wages & transfer fees being over inflated by prying clubs with a voyeurism complex. Yes that means we will miss out on our no. 1 targets most of the time because he wont waste our money and it is our money remember. Any player identified publicly by Arsenal or a source will immediately alert ALL the tops clubs to that player with this simple reasoning – If Wenger wants him then he must be special so offer more! Take a moment and think about ManU, Chelsea, Napoli, Everton, RealM and other top clubs im sure to have missed who either need or will need a new striker in the next few weeks and willing to pay CASH with no thought of the future because they either have a sugar daddy owner, surplus cash from a huge sale and a need to replace or a new club owner/ manager wanting to make a statement or 2. We are none of those, we are in the enviable position of being self sufficient and run in a proper manner (how annoying for some of our fanbase!).
Just take a breathe and sit back and watch and admire Wenger play Chess with the super wealthy clubs with deep pockets and nothing to lose. Im excited and confident the right players will join and we will have an amazing season wand who knows, capped off with the PL winners!!

Should they fail to agree to Valencia s price demands for Mustafi, then Arsenal have a couple of alternatives in the pipeline. Price the issue. Arsenal want to hold back funds for possible striker signing. #AFC transfer budget factors in fee, salary, agent commission
