[Video] Arsenal star hints at another striker arrival after confirming Vardy

Olivier Giroud has hinted that Arsene Wenger may look to bring in another striker after confirming that Jamie Vardy is set to join Arsenal this summer.

Widespread reports over the past two days claim that Vardy is on the verge of joining Arsenal with the Mirror reporting on Friday night that we’d triggered his release clause – which is believed to be worth around £20m.

The newspaper reports today that Vardy is now set to undergo his medical this afternoon after a four-year contract worth £100,000-a-week was agreed with the striker.

Some fans still appear skeptical over this proposed transfer as it’s certainly a strange one from Wenger to spend big money on a player who’s approaching his 30th birthday.

However, current striker Giroud has now confirmed that he’s been told Vardy is heading for Arsenal and the Frenchman has welcomed the Leicester City hitman to the Emirates as he feels the pair will compliment each other in attack.

As you can see from the video below, Giroud told Sky Sports News:

“I’ve been told Jamie wants to join us. It’s a very good move for us. I think we can compliment each other,”

“That’s all I can say, he is a fantastic player, so yeah, it’s a good move for us.”

So it looks as though Vardy is now set to become our second signing of the summer following the arrival of Granit Xhaka last month and thought will soon turn to how Wenger plans to line his team up next season.

I came up with a couple of possible line-ups yesterday, however, Giroud has joked that Arsene should now switch formation to 4-4-2 in order to accommodate both himself and Vardy.

Interestingly, Giroud also revealed that Wenger may look to bring in a second striker this summer after losing Danny Welbeck to a serious knee injury.

When asked which formation Arsenal should play next season, Giroud is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“Obviously we would play 4-4-2!”

“As I said in the past, I’m happy with competition. We’ve always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club so hopefully he’s going to help us to win this title.

“Giroud admitted he always knew Wenger would bring in a striker this summer after Danny Welbeck was struck down by another long-term knee injury.

“With Welbs being injured, the boss wanted to sign at least one or maybe two strikers,”

“I expected a top striker to come in and I think it’s very beneficial for the club and for the team, so hopefully he’s going to score a lot of goals as he did with Leicester.”

It’s certainly going to be an interesting summer and it looks like Wenger isn’t messing about this year. Hopefully we can get the Vardy deal wrapped-up before he flies out to France with the England squad on Monday.
