Arsenal star opens up on his recovery from serious injury

Danny Welbeck has opened up on his struggles to overcome a serious knee injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for almost nine months.

Welbeck was enjoying a solid debut season at the Emirates following his arrival from Manchester United on deadline day in the summer of 2014.

His progress was halted when he suffered what was initially thought to be a minor knee injury back in April. However, the injury proved difficult to shift and Danny was eventually forced to undergo an operation in September which ruled him out until the New Year.

With his comeback date now in sight, the attacker has been speaking to Arsenal.com and admitted that it’s been difficult spending so much time on the sidelines but insists he’d tried to stay positive and is confident he’ll be ‘flying’ when he eventually returns to the first team:

“It is difficult,” he said. “It is my first injury that has kept me out for so long. I had my operation and once that is sorted you can be out for a few more months.

“For the first month, in a leg brace, not being able to do anything, on a machine six hours a day, it was very difficult. But you have to try and see the positives. Luckily I had my family around me, my friends came down to London and I had my brothers.

“It was good to have people around me and have that support. You wake up in the morning and know you have double sessions in the gym it is hard but you have to see the positive side and I have learnt a lot more being injured on how to look after your body and prevent injuries. I have to see the positive side and hopefully when I come back, I will be flying.”

I think we’ve really missed Welbeck over the past few months as he’s a versatile player who can play anywhere across the attacking positions, and he’d certainly have been a useful player to have around this season given how many injuries we’ve had to deal with.

Hopefully he can make a successful return in the New Year and stay fit during the second half of the season as it looks like we’re right in the title mix this year and now we’ve got the knockout stages of the Champions League to look forward to.

I hope that he can add something to Arsenal when he returns, as I still feel Arsenal should have kept hold of Afobe rather than sign him.

Wenger is spoilt for striker options. That shd be the way.
All top teams have at least 4 strikers of near or almost equal caliber.
The problem is keeping all these guys happy if they are out of the
    senior team.
