Arsenal Face Competition For £46.5m Duo – Report

By on May 26, 2015

It appears Arsenal will face competition from Liverpool for the signing of Monaco duo Geoffrey Kondogbia and Aymen Abdennour this summer, according to reports.

Kondogbia put in a superb all-round display during Monaco’s 3-1 win at the Emirates earlier in the season and it sparked speculation suggesting that he was back on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

Reports back in April claimed that we were leading the chase for his signature ahead of the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia and the boss is understood to have been keeping a close eye on him ahead of a summer swoop.

We’re expected to bring in another defensive midfielder with Flamini, Diaby and Arteta all set to leave and the 22-year-old would be an excellent signing.

Abdennour is another Monaco star who we’ve been strongly linked with in recent months with rumours suggesting Arsene is also eyeing the Tunisian international as a possible replacement for Per Mertesacker – should he decide to head back to Germany this summer.

However, it appears we’ll now face competition from Liverpool for the pair as French newspaper L’Equipe claim the Merseysiders are eyeing a double swoop for the £46.5m-rated duo.

Kondogbia will supposedly cost £25m – which I think is more than reasonable for a player of his talent – while Abdennour is rated at around £21.5m. I personally feel that’s a little excessive and there is probably better value to be had elsewhere, but he’d still be a great addition if Arsene was prepared to pay that kind of money.

Liverpool’s interest slightly complicates things but I’d still be confident we’ll be able to fend off competition from Brendan Rodgers for either player. We have Champions League football to offer and have more financial muscle than the Anfield club, so there really isn’t much to worry about.
