Arsenal Discuss Personal Terms Ahead Of Potential £29m Striker Deal

By on April 14, 2015

According to reports, Arsenal are discussing personal terms with the agent of Gonzalo Higuain ahead of a potential £29m move this summer.

We came close to signing Higuain before he eventually left Real Madrid for Napoli in the summer of 2013.

However, Arsene Wenger has maintained his interest and it looks like he’s ready to make his move again with the striker understood to be unsettled in Italy.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited with interest but it seems we’re now considered as favourites to land the Argentinean international.

The Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Arsene has opened formal talks with Higuain’s brother – who is also his agent – and is already discussing personal terms.

It’s not made clear whether we’ve been given permission by Napoli to hold these talks, but the newspaper suggests that the boss is preparing a £29m bid for the 27-year-old at the end of the season.

Who knows how much truth there is behind these reports but Higuain would be a great signing. Despite the excellent form of Giroud, and the fact we’ve also got Welbeck and Sanchez, I think we need another top striker this summer to have a squad capable of winning the title of Champions League.

Higuain is a world class goal scorer with career stats of 199 goals in 392 games so there’s no doubt he’d bring a real goal threat to the team, so I’d be glad to see him arrive at the Emirates this summer.

Sure. Like Arsenal can create their own exclusive transfer window, just for Higuain.

Anyone who thinks we don’t need another quality keeper, defender, defensive midfield n striker are pathetic. The more quality players we could signs the better for us. Long season, 4 trophies to compete, we need to rotate players.

I think you can give your opinion without calling those who hold a different view pathetic. it is totally uncalled for.

Knowing Wenger, I think we have moved on from Higuain. It would mean even less playing time for Welbeck and Giroud, and absolute no chance for Akpom, no matter how well he does on loan. Being well-established strikers, neither of Giroud or Higuain would be happy on the bench, and we are not likely to start both of them. Team has balance now, and every addition we make must be in replacement of a departing player, or is guaranteed to improve the team significantly, not destabilize it.

I totally agree, Igbo, but I do think we need another striker. Giroud has really come on this season, but there’s still a question mark over whether he can score frequently enough in the big games (remember Monaco away). There’s also the possibility of injury- then what. I’ve never rated Higuain that highly myself, but that’s probably more from not having seen enough of him and consequent ignorance. Ideally a different kind of (fox in the box type?) striker who’s young and happy to learn his trade under Wenger. I’m not sure this is Sanogo just yet…
