RATINGS: Arsenal 2-0 Dortmund – Cazorla & Sanchez Superb

Santi-Cazorla Arsenal

Arsenal produced one of their best performances of the season with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last night to secure our place in the last 16 of the Champions League. These are my player ratings from the game:

Martinez – 7/10 – Impressive shift from the youngster. Made two fine saves and never looked out of place.

Chambers – 7/10 – A very good all-round display. Linked up well with The Ox early on but knew when to stay back as we closed the game out.

Mertesacker – 7/10 – Much better. Looked far more assured and kept the Dortmund attack under wraps.

Monreal – 7.5/10 – A very impressive game from Nacho. Covered Mertesacker like a seasoned centre-back and didn’t put a foot wrong.

Gibbs – 7/10 – A far more mature performance. He didn’t constantly bomb forward like we saw against United and kept the dangerous Aubameyang quiet.

Arteta – 7/10 – Was having a good game before being forced off with a calf injury. Fingers crossed it’s not serious as we look more balanced in midfield with Mikel playing.

Ramsey – 7/10 – Still not the all-action Aaron from last season but he worked harder than any player on the pitch. The goals will come in time.

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8/10 – Excellent performance. The Ox looked dangerous again and almost scored a worldy when his half-volley stuck the crossbar.

Cazorla – 8.5/10 – Easily his best display of the season. He was lively on the ball and created both goals with superb passes. With Jack and Mesut out, we need more performances like this from him.

Alexis – 8.5/10 – Once again, he didn’t stop working and showed his class with a world class finish. An absolute joy to watch.

Sanogo – 7/10 – Opened the scoring with a cool finish after some good link-up play with Cazorla. Unfortunately, he was forced off with a hamstring injury.

Subs:

Flamini (6), Podolski (6), Campbell (N/A).

So overall, this was an excellent all-round display from the team. We were dangerous going forward, got our goals, and had the discipline to sit back and protect the win. Much better from the lads and hopefully we can replicate this kind of display on a more regular basis.

    What a relief to see something of the old Santi Cazorla return. He was great last night and with the mounting injury list it is in the nick of time if he keeps it going.
    I thought there were signs of Ramsey starting to recover last season’s form; wouldn’t that make a difference to our team efforts ?
    I am not get too carried away with Sanogo’s performance even though he scored a very good goal. I watched him closely and he did not attempt to win the ball back in situations that Danny Welbeck would have tried and probably succeeded.
    It was very noticeable the great cheer that Podolski got from the fans when he came on. With Sanogo struggling, Poldi should have been brought on much sooner and Sanogo may not have got his injury too.

      Yeah, it takes a very long time to see Santi play his routine again. I hope he can keep his “mojo” in all of our future games at less until Ozil and Jack return. Ramsey signs his comeback last night as he ran 12 plus km around the field. He did. He seem to find that missing steel lungs. Let’s hope he’ll find another missing parts. Sanogo? Glad for his goal. But to be honest, it was an easy injury and he’s too young to be an injury prone. Unbelievable about how fragile our players this season. Unfinished “homework” yet again for Arsene and his health department. COYG!
