Arsene To Make Fresh Bid After Holding Talks With €35m Ace In London
Some potentially exciting news has been circulating today with reports claiming that Arsenal are set to revive their interest in Marco Reus after holding talks with the Borussia Dortmund attacker earlier in the summer.
Reus is a name that’s long been linked with a move to the Emirates and there was widespread speculation last month that suggested we had a €35m (£28m) deal in place to sign the player this summer.
Spanish newspaper Vozpopuli claim today that the 25-year-old even travelled to London to hold talks with Arsene Wenger about the move back in June, before the proposed deal had to be shelved after Reus picked up an ankle injury just before the World Cup.
However, further reports suggest that Arsenal are now ready to renew their interest in the German international with Arsene seemingly keen to try and push for a deal before the close of the transfer window.
Obviously Reus would be a sensational signing if we could pull it off but there will be several hurdles to overcome if we are to lure him to the Emirates.
Firstly, it’s unclear whether Borussia Dortmund would be willing to sell this late in the window. The Germans were believed to be open to cashing in on Reus this summer as he will be able to leave for just €25m next year due to a buy-out clause in his contract. Better to sell abroad now for €35m than let him join Bayern for €25m in 12 months, eh?
However, with little over 10 days to go in the transfer window, they wouldn’t have a lot of time to find a replacement if we were to strike a deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
Even if they do agree to sell, other clubs will also be on the case, with the likes of Bayern, Man Utd, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid all believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation, so we’ll face some real competition for his signature.
So while these reports are exciting, the reality is it’s going to be extremely difficult to get a deal done, but what a signing he’d be if Arsene was able to pull it off!
