Arsenal Blow As Midfielder Ruled Out Until After International Break

By on August 21, 2014

Mikel Arteta

Arsenal will have to make do without the services of captain Mikel Arteta until after next months international break, it’s being reported today.

Arteta was forced off in the second half of our 0-0 draw with Besiktas on Tuesday night following a tackle from former Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

He left the stadium in a protective boot and now the Guardian are reporting that the 32-year-old will miss at least two weeks with a badly sprained ankle.

The full extent of the problem will be revealed when scan results come back today, but the newspaper claim that Arsenal don’t expect Arteta to be available again until after next months international break.

If true, it means the Spaniard will miss Saturday’s away trip to his former side Everton, the return leg of our crucial Champions League play off with Besiktas on Wednesday as well as our trip to face newly-promoted Leicester City next weekend.

We then have a two week international break and it’s expected that Arteta will then be available for the home clash against Manchester City on September 13th.

Obviously it’s a blow as we have a couple of huge games coming up and lets not forget Aaron Ramsey will be suspended for the Besiktas game, so Arsene Wenger’s options in the middle are going to be limited.

Many are now calling for the boss to go out and buy a defensive midfielder but lets face it, Arsene isn’t going to buy just because Arteta will miss the next three games. If he buys another midfielder it’s because he was always planning on doing so, so let’s just wait and see how things stand when the window closes on September 1st.

Sorry for Arteta as a person, however, as a player and permanent fixture, being captain, lets hope Wenger comes to his senses and realise the dire need for a specialist Defensive Midfielder. Whilst Arteta’s contribution to Arsenal over the years are appreciated, he does NOT belong in a team with aspirations like Arsenal any longer. The same applies to Giroud who can certainly not be regarded as a top class Striker.

Woow Happy news for me,now wenger will buy a defensive midfielder,I just imagine if this had happened if the transfer market has closed.we need players to compete. With our players,if we have a perfect striker Giroud won’t be doing that rubbish he did against besiktas.let get Marco Reus, loan back Alex Song or buy Khedira, Rabiot,Manolas and a perfect replacement for gibbs. That monreal should please Live and let buy Howedes. And mr wenger is using Sanchez the wrong way, he can’t apply his left use him on the left wing where Cazorla plays and he will play perfectly. He his not Happy At all.

I have been a Gooner since I was born and it kills me when you look at what giroud offers in our attack but yet Mr Wenger thinks we have enough quality up front, we need to acknowledge that we are not going to win the PL or UCL with such striker if you compare him to those like aguero, dzeko, Costa, Sturridge…. Out of the top four These attacking players in that same position as giroud will take their chances really well when given, so I think it is important for us to sign a proven quality goal scorer up front if we are to challenge for the big trophies this season.

I hope Mr Wenger sees the seriousness off girouds incapabilities to score on Saturday and next week and sees the likes off ozil, santi and alexis show their frustrations towards him, if Everton thrash us without us scoring goals cos of Giroud then it may make wenger pounce and go buy a striker. No offence to Giroud but he should be a bench man in AFC and I am fed up off wenger being bias towards other nationalities up front!!!!

I really appreciate this summers signings but fact is that it was more like for like to those who have left us. Sagna out Debuchy in, TV out Chambers in, Fabianski out Ospina in. We have only made 1 quality addition with Sanchez that gives us depth in the squad upfront and it is frustrating for the fans we haven’t made more signings!!!! Wenger needs to leave for a younger manager next season!!!!
