Arsenal Close In On Star After Offering €9m-Per-Season Deal
Yet more interesting reports coming out of Spain today with Sport claiming that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Iker Casillas after offering him a five-year deal worth €9m-per-season.
The news comes after El Confidencial reported on Wednesday that Arsene Wenger had approached the 33-year-old goalkeeper and made it clear he would like to bring him to the Emirates IF Real Madrid agreed to rip up his contract and let him leave for nothing.
Sport suggest this is a distinct possibility as Madrid have just agreed a deal to sign Keylor Navas, so with Casillas set to drop down to third choice next season, the European champions are keen to get his high wages off the books.
Although he’s still a valuable asset and Madrid could no doubt still command a decent fee for him, the report claims that president Florentino Pérez has a verbal agreement in place with the Madrid legend to let him leave for free as a thank you for the 24 years he’s put into the club.
And now it looks as though Arsene has made his move with Sport stating that we’ve offered the keeper a five-year contract worth €9m-per-season, which the newspaper says is an ‘offer too good to refuse’.
The rumours are certainly building and it’s becoming an intriguing situation when you consider widespread reports also claim we’ve agreed a deal to sign David Ospina from Nice, with the Colombian supposedly set to sign a four-year deal worth £60,000-a-week when he returns from holiday next week.
There’s little chance Arsene is going to buy both Ospina and Casillas, so you have to wonder exactly what is going on. The most likely scenario is Arsene is lining-up both deals before deciding which one to pursue, but we’ll have to see how things develop over the coming days….
