Arsenal Star Drops Bombshell After Hinting At La Liga Return

Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla has stunned fans after claiming he will consider his future after the World Cup and hinted at a possible move to Atletico Madrid.

Reports last week claimed that the La Liga champions were lining-up a €20m move for Cazorla this summer after Diego Simeone apparently made him one of his key transfer targets.

Most fans laughed off the speculation but soon after news came out of Spain that suggested Santi was keen on the move as he wanted to return to Spain after two years in north London.

Again, many fans weren’t too concerned as the 29-year-old only recently signed a new contract extension at Arsenal and he’s shown no visible sign that he’s unsettled at the club.

However, the attacker has now dropped a bombshell after telling reporters that he will consider his future after the World Cup and even talked-up a possible move to Atletico Madrid, name-dropping friends who play for them and saying he knows the club well.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Cazorla said:

“When the World Cup is over, I’ll start thinking about my situation,”

“I don’t want to be thinking about it right now and I’ve told my agents not to tell me anything if an offer comes in.

“But I know a few of the Atlético players – Godín, Juanfran and I know the side well from when I was playing the Spanish league but until the tournament is over, I won’t know if the rumours are true or not.” source: Mirror

So it seems there could be a lot more to this story than first thought. Speculation been building and when given the opportunity to squash talk of a move and commit his future to Arsenal, Santi chose to speak to a Spanish paper and fuel the rumours even further.

Players are very clever these days and they know exactly what they are doing when they speak to the press and say things like this. Santi will have known full-well that this would add fuel to the fire and he wouldn’t say he’ll ‘think about his situation’ unless there were doubts in his mind about him staying at Arsenal.

I would be gutted if he was sold and it would make our decision to pass on Cesc Fabregas even more frustrating/confussing. Obviously Santi has played the majority of his games out wide and not in the middle where Fabregas would play, but they are both still considered attacking midfielders.

However, I personally don’t see Arsene sanctioning Cazorla’s sale this summer. The Frenchman stated at the end of last season his aim was for ‘continuity’ and with Sagna and Fabianski gone, Vermaelen likely to follow and doubts continuing over the future of Lukas Podolski, to lose a key player like Cazorla would be crazy and leave us with too much business to be done in one window.

    Roughly translated as, ‘agent instructed not to disturb me by telling me Wenger has laughed off a bid’.

    Mind you after Spain got thrashed by Holland last week, imagine no Spaniards are currently carrying a high value.

    If he doesn’t want to play for Arsenal get his over paid arse out of the club as soon as possible.

    Instead of optimism going into the summer, with hopes of big money signings we yet again get tales of who wants to leave.

    Very depressing, nothing ever changes at Arsenal does it ?

    Wenger should know now who he wantz to add to d team b4 itz too late nd whoever dat want to leave there should be a ready made replacement.
