Agent Confirms “Arsenal Are Very Interested” In £30m Hitman

By on June 11, 2014

The agent of Jackson Martinez claims Arsenal are “very interested” in signing the £30m-rated striker with the Colombian expected to leave Porto this summer.

Martinez has continued his red-hot form in front of goal since joining Porto from Mexican side Chiapas in 2012, scoring 60 goals in 90 appearances for the Portuguese giants.

Understandably he’s been linked with a big money move this summer and Arsenal are just one of a number of top clubs who have been tipped to go in for the 27-year-old by the newspapers.

However, it seems it’s not just paper-talk as the strikers agent in Italy, Peppino Tirri, has now confirmed that while there is little interest coming from Serie A, Arsenal and Valencia are extremely interested in the Colombian striker.

“In Italy we have had very little contact, but for sure there have not been any offers made by Roma.

“There are, instead, opportunities abroad – Arsenal and Valencia in particular are very interested in Jackson Martinez.” source: talkSPORT

Martinez is set to lead the line for Colombia at the World Cup with Radamel Falcao struggling with a knee injury, so if Arsene Wenger does want to sign the player, he better hurry up about it as interest is going to soar if he enjoys a positive showing out in Brazil.

Obviously we need to sign at least one striker this summer and there aren’t many better goal-scorers available than Martinez, but I have doubts over whether Arsene will sanction spending in the region of £30m on a player who is relatively unproven outside of Portugal.

He’d be far more of a risk than someone like Benzema – who has done the business for years at Real Madrid – or even Romelu Lukaku – who has enjoyed two excellent years on loan in the Premier League. I’d personally prefer either of those two over Martinez but the Porto man would be worth a punt if we can’t land any of our other targets.

Dunno why he would be considered unproven a strike rate of 2\3 is excellent wherever you are. The players coming to prem from the spanish league have generally adapted very well. He has had an excellent record his whole career and is about to come into his prime! A striker is about 1 thing putting the ball into the back of the net, arsenal are a team that create a multitude of chances in a game martinez would definitely be a player who would make the most of them! And let’s face it 25-30m aint a lot of money in football at the moment.
