RATINGS From Arsenal’s 0-0 Draw With Man Utd: No Ambition From Wenger

By on February 12, 2014

Well that was a huge anti-climax. A game where both teams had to win somehow ended in a bore 0-0 draw.

A draw isn’t the worse result in the world for us but given how vulnerable United have been this season, to only take one point from our two games against them is hugely disappointing.

They were there for the taking tonight and we simply didn’t give it our all to get the win, because Arsene Wenger was too scared to lose the game. He showed no ambition to go and win the game. Where were the attacking subs Arsene?!

Olivier Giroud and Jack Wilshere were having poor games and we had Lukas Podolski and Nicklas Bendtner sitting on the bench, and the boss fails to bring them on. He didn’t change things up or give them anything to think about, he just kept things as they were and hoped for a chance to come our way.

Anyway, at least we kept a clean sheet which was important following Saturday’s debacle. Here are my ratings:

Szczesny – 8/10 – Another superb display. Made a great stop to deny RVP early on then made a stunning save to once again deny the Dutchman late on.

Sagna – 6.5/10 – Not at his most adventurous tonight. He did put in one excellent cross which Giroud failed to convert.

Mertesacker – 7/10 – Solid display from the Frenchman. United were unadventurous but he kept the danger of RVP and Rooney pretty quiet.

Koscielny – 7/10 – Like Per, he was solid enough and made some important tackles. Saw a header cleared off the line.

Gibbs – 7/10 – Good to see him back in the team and he slotted in well. Maybe didn’t offer as much in attack as he could have but his pace was important down the left.

Arteta – 6.5/10 – Recovered from a nightmare start when he lost possession to Van Persie on the edge of his own box. Was tidy in the middle of the park and battled well.

Wilshere – 4/10 – Very poor performance from Jack. He lost possession countless times and was off the pace. Clearly not 100% fit.

Rosicky – 5.5/10 – Plenty of energy but some stray passes and he lacked any real cutting edge.

Cazorla – 6.5/10 – Grew into the game and went closest to opening the scoring for us with a couple of decent late shots.

Ozil – 8/10 – Was easily our best outfield player and was always trying to get things going. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a ‘proper’ striker to work off….

Giroud – 4/10 – Not good enough again in a big game. Missed a great chance when he put an early free header wide then failed to get on the end of Sagna’s cross with the goal waiting for him to tuck home. His touch was largely off all game as well. He really needs to step up when we need him in these kind of games. He was unlucky not to win a penalty though when Vidic shoved him over in the box.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10 – Added a bit of pace down the right but failed to help us make the break-through.

A disappointing result but we’re still only one point off top and another big game out the way. Sadly we look tired and lacking ideas in the final third, which isn’t what we need with Liverpool and Bayern Munich to come in the next week.

What were your ratings from the game?

No good blaming Wenger he wasn’t playing, and to suggest he played for a draw is barmy. The players are just not delivering.

I think you can definitely lay some blame at Wenger’s door, when you leave, in Wenger’s own words, the clubs most clinical finisher, on the bench for 90 minutes. He then leaves Wilshere and Giroud on the pitch for the last 20 minutes even though they had both had a nightmare performance combined with the fact that their legs had gone. Wengers ineptitude when it comes to substitutions is legendary and he didn’t let us down today!

    Agree with richie.
    but not as politely..
wengers a shitter, girouds shit and wengers a cunt for not bringing on podi & lanky sanogo.
Ozil was brilliant today, shame podi wasn’t on to receive the ball from him,
as we all know he would have smashed it in,.

Pretty sure Arsenal wouldn’t beat a man united team playing with eight men tonite..it’s now clear it’s a psychological thing!

I presume your capital letters are the bits where you are shouting? Very nice touch.. Perhaps you could tell me then why this great man wanted by all top clubs because of his brilliant record over the last 9 years didn’t bring on Podolski or Bendtner or even Sanogo when we needed a goal. When our striker who had missed every chance and could hardly walk because he was knackered along with Wilshere who was so tired that he thought it easier to pass to the opposition or let them take the ball off him at will. When was the last time Wenger made a positive substitution? When was the last time he made a substitution that changed the game? I’m awaiting your reasons why such a great manager would fail to be able to manage such obvious decisions.. i’m a stonemason by the way, and a damn good one.. What are you, apart from gullible and blinded by past glories?

Giroud has no movement , no skill , no speed . and can’t finish/shoot all he can do is hold up the ball we won’t even get in any of the top 8 teams in the league and he holds ozil back for not making runs, ozil plays good with benzema but not giroud causs he can just hold up the ball 10 goals in the league compare to stuiddge who came back for a 6 week injury had scored more goals than giroud

Giroud is the worst first choice striker that we’ve had for 30 years. He’s had enough support from the fans and now lets just call a spade a spade. He’s utter garbage.

Just more evidence of Arsenal under Wenger. Can’t respond when they need to, never take advantage of other top teams slip ups. Had Pod and Sanogo on the bench, didn’t use them. Didn’t bring Ox on till 15 mins to go. The teams that win the trophies respond when they need to. Wenger doesn’t. Giroud not good enough for Arsenal. Can’t see us winning anything yet again. Still, Wenger promised the world, got his new contract…..then back to mediocrity. Will finish fourth of we are lucky. Arsenal won’t progress in the Premiership or the Champions League until we get a strong manager who will take decisive action. Arsenal will remain a joke until he leaves.

Wenger has to work on his tactics and mentality. I can’t imagine our pattern of play. The movement of our players off the ball is nothing to right home about. Our formation is so static and predictable, our striker is immobile and does not make runs to worry opposition defenders. We r easy to contain. Thanks to wenger’s flawed formation. We drew the game because we have no good striker. Giroud is average and cannot lead our line. We need goal poachers like falcao, diego lopez and cavani. That’s all I can say for now.

Giroud does not deserve a 4, he lost posession easily, he couldn’t score when he could easily have, he doesnt deserve to be in that team. welldone to Ozil after all the criticism , he pulled up his socks and attacked the Man U defence welldone

WENGER is nothing but an over due manager that knows only how to pass balls , His managerial ability is zero level compaired to other top managers cos am seek n tired of seeing his face. Let Arsenal board stop all their pranks cos we are not novis anymore we are loosing our hearts gradually all the sake of ARSENAL, WENGER AND GAZIDIS

Ozil really impressed me bt i think the whole team need to rise to the occasion when its needed of them. Giroud is probably the weakest striker in the epl God i cant believe this guy is wearing our colours.

i agree with comments about giroud, he is hopeless, technically very average player surounded by very good players, the amount of chances he misses

I’m surprised that defenders are not recognised fairly when rating players. The best player on both sides is definitely Konscielny.. He’s on par with Thaigo Silva right now,and that’s not me being sentimental… Because Giroud failed against Man Utd,that’s when most of u lot realise that he isn’t good enough for Arsenal. Where were u when we’ve been saying since the beginning of the season that the guy is not even Newcastle standard? It won’t be fair on the likes of Man City (with Negrdo,Dzeko,Jovetic and Aguero) or Liverpool (with Sturridge and Suarez) for Arsenal (with Sanogo,Bendtner and Giroud) to win the league with an almost non-existent centre forward.
