Arsenal Look To Seal Double Signing With £30m Offer

By on January 14, 2014

Arsenal are hoping to secure the double signing of Yohan Cabaye and Davide Santon this month and will test Newcastle’s resolve with a €36m (£30m) offer, according to reports in France.

Many of you will remember that we were strongly linked with Cabaye in the summer and had at least one bid rejected, with Alan Pardew left unimpressed by our supposed £10m opening offer. The Frenchman was keen to make the move to north London and refused to take part in the Geordies clash with West Ham following our bid, and at one point a move looked likely.

However, Arsenal refused to improve upon their offer and eventually opted to sign Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer, while Cabaye ended up staying at St James’ Park where he’s been in outstanding form so far this season.

It seems Arsene Wenger has retained his interest, with French media outlet RMC Sport reporting that we will go back in for the midfielder as part of a £30m double swoop that will also include a move for full-back Santon.

I can only assume, if this report is accurate, that Wenger sees Cabaye as a long-term successor to Mikel Arteta. But while I would love to see him come to Arsenal and feel he’d fit in well, I’m not sure he’s the type of player we need to be buying in January.

We’re well-stocked in midfield at present with Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky, Ramsey, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla and Ozil all capable of playing centrally, so Cabaye should maybe be one for the summer in my opinion.

RMC Sport suggest that Santon is likely to be a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna – who continues to stall on signing a contract extension. The Italian international predominately plays at left-back for Newcastle but is also capable of playing on the right side of defence.

From what I’ve seen of him, he’s certainly a decent player, but he’s nowhere near Sagna’s level yet and I’d personally prefer we went for Mathieu Debuchy out of the two Newcastle full-backs.

However, our priority should be to tie Sagna down to a new deal as soon as possible, because he’s better than both and has been excellent for us this season.

We need a full back and a very good striker, our mid-fielders create chances but seems difficult to convert. Use that 30m and buy jackson martinez, please. I hate to see you shevering when we meet man utd, man city or chelsea, you can’t win these clubs without good striker

Get a striker, cabaye is good but we aready have quality midfielders. Giroud should be a defender not a striker. Diego Costa will be of great help
