“I’ve Had Approaches From Arsenal”
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu claims that he has been approached by Arsenal and admits he could be on the move this January.
The 26-year-old has become a vital part of the Baggies first team in recent seasons and has caught the eye of a number of clubs throughout Europe with his no-nonsense displays at the heart of midfield.
However, it seems the Congo international is now ready to make the step up to a Champions League team, judging by his recent comment in the press.
Mulumbu claims that he has been approached by Arsenal about making a move to the Emirates Stadium, and feels a move for him could be on the cards next month. He said:
“I’ve had approaches from Arsenal,”
“I could leave this winter. This is the right time for me to set my sights higher. I’m ready to join a top-four club.
“We are not professional enough in the way we manage our games – for example our draw at Chelsea. We are not mature enough.” [source: Mirror]
Mulumbu joined West Brom from Paris Saint Germain for just £150,000 in 2009 but has blossomed into a fine holding midfielder. Whether he’s ready to make the step up to a club like Arsenal remains to be seen though.
I’d also question whether he’d even get in our squad, never mind our first team. With the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta already battling for a starting spot, I really don’t see any room, or need, for Mulumbu unless we got a devastating injury crisis.
Do you think we need a player like Mulumbu?
