RATINGS: Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea: Jenks Error Killed The Game

By on October 29, 2013

So we’re out the Capital One Cup at the fourth round stage for the first time in 11 years after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

After a lively start, the games big turning point came in the 25th minute when Carl Jenkinson’s poor header allowed Azpilicueta in to poke home the opener. That goal proved crucial as with the goal lead, Jose Mourinho instructed his men to sit back and hit us on the break.

We saw a lot more of the ball in the second half but the bank of Blue men was difficult to penetrate and they defended pretty comfortably in truth, as we struggled to create. Chelsea sealed the win with a stunner from Juan Mata in the second half and there was no way back.

Here’s my ratings:

Fabianski – 6 – Did very little other than pick the ball out of his net twice. May take some of the blame for the opener as he should have come off his line quicker but could do nothing about Mata’s strike.

Jenkinson – 4 – Poor Jenks. Awful error was crucial and his all-round play was well below par. He has so much potential but always has a mistake in him.

Vermaelen – 6 – Was caught out a couple of times and lucky not to be sent off for bringing down Ba in the final minute. Phil Dowd was obviously feeling generous.

Koscielny – 8 – Superb at the back for us.

Monreal – 7 – I was impressed with the Spaniard tonight. Worked hard and was a threat going forward.

Ramsey – 6 – Had a few efforts on goal but nothing really to worry Schwarzer.

Wilshere – 6.5 – We saw glimpses of his quality and surging runs but couldn’t really get the better of Essien and Mikel.

Rosicky – 6 – Worked hard but not at his best.

Cazorla – 6.5 – Linked up well on occasion and we saw some real quality at times from him, but not often enough.

Ryo – 5.5 – Couldn’t get in the game enough but his pace did worry Chelsea early on before the opener.

Bendtner – 4 – Absolutely useless. Didn’t look interested, hardly moved for the ball, wasn’t a threat at all and was rightly subbed.

Subs:

Ozil – 6 – Flashes of brilliance but not a lot of end product.

Giroud – 7 – Made an immediate impact, getting our first shot on target within 2 minutes of coming on and was the focal point we’d missed while Bendtner was on.

Park – N/A – The forgotten man was only on for a few minutes.

So we’ve not started our season-define period well, with defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea. Next up is Liverpool on Saturday and we simply have to get back to winning ways.

What did you think of the game tonight?

The result today has no meaning, unless you fans blow it out of proportion. Bayern Munich pummelling of Barca last year did not stop them from winning the La Liga

Arsene Winger, I believed did not make a wise selection, he under-rated Chelsea and did not make an early substitution to enable them effect the changes. I still believed we really need another strong central striker who can deliver more goals.
