Wenger Confirms He Might Not Sign Anyone Before Tottenham Game

By on August 24, 2013

Arsene Wenger has confirmed no new signings will come in before the Champions League second leg against Fenerbache on Tuesday while it’s also possible no new faces will be in the door in time to face Tottenham next Sunday.

It’s been a hugely frustrating summer with the club missing out on several top names and despite the boss having around £70m to spend, all we’ve got to show for it is the free signing of unknown French youngster Yaya Sanogo.

Wenger confirmed last week after the Fenerbache game that he’ll definitely be ‘active in the market’ during the last 10 days, but it seems he’s ready to leave it REALLY late as he’s claimed today that no new players will be signed in time to face the Turks on Tuesday, while there’s a chance nobody will be in before Spurs come to the Emirates on Sunday – just one day before deadline day.

Thankfully, Wenger also confirmed that the impressive 3-1 win over Fulham today hasn’t affected his transfer plans and he still knows exactly what he wants to add, but has denied that an improved bid for Yohan Cabaye has been submitted.

Wenger told Arsenal.com:

on if results alter his transfer plans…

No. We will be a bit less under media pressure maybe but that will not change exactly. I know exactly what I want to do and that will not change.

on if Cabaye being left out of the Newcastle squad has anything to do with Arsenal…

No.

on if he’s made another bid for Cabaye…

No.

on if he’ll strengthen before the Fenerbahce game…

Before the Fenerbahce game? No.

on if he’ll strengthen before the weekend…

Before next weekend? It’s possible. Honestly, I’m not the only one that can decide that because the clubs who sell the players [are involved too]. We are on the market, you know that. I know we expect news from us. We will try to give you some but at the moment, nothing to announce.

Not bringing anyone in for Fenerbache is fine, we are well in control of the tie and should easily have enough resources to finish the job off. However, I’ll be hugely disappointed if no new faces are signed before the Spurs game. We simply can not go into a game of that magnitude with the squad as light as it is right now.

From the squad available today, only Koscielny will added for the Spurs game. Possibly Miyaichi as well, but he’s hardly a player we can rely upon just yet. Our bench today had Frimpong, Zelalem and Gnarby on it, as well as Sanogo. If we pick up any more injuries before next weekend, we could be in trouble.

It’s simply not a risk worth taking. If Arsene has his targets, why not just try and get them in as soon as possible?

He’s not going to rush to sign people for Tuesday’s game because they wouldn’t be able to play (you have to be eligible for the first leg to play in the second). I’d be quite worried if no one’s come in by the NLD.

Shut your illiterate pathetic mouth! How dare the likes of you write about Wenger having to die for things to change ? I want Wenger to bring in reinforcements ASAP but you are just the type of Arsenal supporter, that makes the atmosphere at the Emirates TOXIC.

Its’ pretty obvious, isn’t it? Wenger’s got to wait for Real to officially announce Bale. Then they’ll free up Di Maria and Benzema and off the Arse goes to the races.

Di Maria maybe..benzema no chance but then Roma want Di Maria as well and so will a few teams. If benzema becomes available watch the Chelsea’s and Psgs put bids in!

I don’t think Wenger said that we might go to the Tottenham game before we sign anybody for then it would mean we shall not sign anyone this summer! The Tottenham game is on Sunday 1st September. In effect if we shall have signed nobody it means we shall not sign anyone this summer which is far from what Wenger said. Other sources quote him as saying it is too early to have signed anyone for the Fenebahce game; however we shall sign people before the closure of the window. This was purely blown out of context because he even admitted to having a thin squad which is not acceptable. Check your facts well lest you were misinformed.

Oh what a shock that, supporter tormentor, Wenger is not going to buy. He will only buy, panic buy, if Tottenham beat us. He cannot spend big money because he has OCD over money, and he can’t let go of it. It’s a kind of Freudian thing. That’s my take on what is happening. “Le Professeur” is in fact “Le Dictateur”. I love the club, I love the team, I don’t like Wenger “Le Dictateur” at all.

panic buy is all that is left. I believe their is administration problem with Arsenal and too much power on one individual. A coach needs to be a coach but when someone has too jobs together it becomes a problem and that is what Arsene W has. When I look at Bor Dortmund
and their budget one cannot remain not to fault Arsenal. Bor Dortmund
does care about the budget and financial position of team but when they know a player will improve them they go for him and also make a player stay when they need him. But hear it all about bargaining and let go player we have been scouting for so long for 1 million or two. jovetic will have improved as today but did not want to pay $25 million

you guys are missing something..hw many times have you seen Arsenal owners watching our game? possibly none so that means they know notting abt the game nor passion we derive from our team so wenger manages everything on his way keeping their gain to them, i think all of them need tobe wipe out becz they are not there for the game, fans evn for players…N.B wenger won’t sign any player again mayb another free player wil do and to make things worse benzema agent has make it clear that he won’t join us, wenger shld stop fooling himself nd prepare for his last days….hopeless man!
