TEAM NEWS: Wenger On Wilshere, Chambers, Monreal, Sanogo & Flamini
Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a full team news update ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Aston Villa and on the whole the news is positive.
Let’s start with the bad news and the boss has confirmed that Nacho Monreal will miss the trip to Villa Park with a back injury.
The Spaniard didn’t travel to Germany in midweek due to the problem and although he was expected to return to full training today, it seems the injury is a little worse than first thought and he’s now going to miss the Villa game too.
Striker Yaya Sanogo continues to miss out with a hamstring injury but Mathieu Flamini is available again having missed the Dortmund game on Tuesday with an unspecified problem.
Calum Chambers is also back in contention after only being fit enough for a place on the bench last time out due to a bout of tonsillitis, and I’d expect he may start at right-back tomorrow.
There was also good news on Jack Wilshere with Arsene confirming he hasn’t suffered any injury to his ankle and is fit to play this weekend. Wenger said:
on Nacho Monreal…
He will miss the game on Saturday. It’s his back and it’s always difficult to predict [the length of absence with those injuries], we don’t really know. I don’t think it will be long-term.
on Yaya Sanogo…
He has a small hamstring problem and is not in the squad.
on Mathieu Flamini and Calum Chambers…
We have [Calum] Chambers back because he had tonsillitis and wasn’t available. And everybody who started the game will be available again. Flamini’s back as well because he wasn’t on the team sheet. He’s back and available.
on Jack Wilshere…
He’s available too. I was wrong [after the Dortmund game], it was his left ankle and it was only a click that made him turn his ankle a bit, so he’s alright.
Arsene also confirmed the news we brought you earlier that Mathieu Debuchy will find out tonight whether he’ll need surgery on his ankle injury. If so, then he’s facing three months out but it will be just 6 weeks if he avoids going under the knife.
