Arsenal ‘keen’ on signing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez
Arsenal are reportedly ‘keen’ on signing Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to Stamford Bridge from Portuguese giants SL Benfica in 2023, the 25-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win the Club World Cup and Conference League.
This season, the Blues have displayed disappointing performances, but the Argentinian has showcased his qualities, scoring 13 goals and registering six assists across all competitions.
Alongside providing his worth in club football, Fernandez has enjoyed great success on the international stage with Argentina, winning a Copa America and World Cup.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Fernandez has been left confused by Chelsea’s direction as frequent changes behind the scenes have created a sense of instability.
So, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. Arsenal are interested in reinforcing the midfield department and are ‘keen’ on signing Fernandez by taking advantage of his current situation.
The North London club have been monitoring the midfielder’s situation closely before making a potential swoop in the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, the report state that Arsenal will have to overcome several obstacles to seal the deal as Manchester City, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona are also plotting a swoop for him.
Fernandez to Arsenal
Moreover, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with Fernandez, valued at around £78m by Transfermarkt, with his existing deal set to run until 2032.
Fernandez is a box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the creative midfield position. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the deep-lying playmaker position if needed.
Arsenal currently have Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions. However, the Dane has struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up since joining from Brentford last summer.
So, it appears Arsenal have already started exploring options to replace Norgaard. Fernandez is a highly talented player and has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent years.
Therefore, the South American would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium during the offseason.
