Arsenal showing ‘concrete’ interest in signing Marc Guehi
Arsenal are reportedly showing a ‘concrete’ interest in signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, as per Football London.
The Gunners decided to reinforce the centre-back position by signing Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié last summer. The Ecuadorian has joined on a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent at the end of this season.
Currently, Mikel Arteta has the duo plus Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba as centre-back options. Moreover, Jurrien Timber, Ben White, and Riccardo Calafiori can provide cover in this position if needed.
Still, it appears Arsenal are looking to add further depth to the centre-back position, with Football London reporting that they are showing a ‘concrete’ interest in Guehi.
Speculation surrounding his future has been emerging as his existing deal is set to expire next summer, and Arsenal are looking to sign him as a free agent.
However, the Englishman wants to play regularly and doesn’t want to be a backup option. As a result, Arsenal will have to find a way to persuade him to join.
Liverpool came very close to signing him last summer and reportedly remain keen on securing his service. On the other hand, following recent injury problems to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, Manchester City are pushing hard to sign Guehi in this winter transfer. Meaning, it won’t be easy for the Emirates club to win this race.
Guehi to Arsenal
Since moving to Selhurst Park from Chelsea, Guehi has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the years. He has even secured his place in the England national team’s starting line-up.
He has won the FA Cup and Community Shield trophies under Oliver Glasner. The Eagles have an opportunity to win the Conference League this season; therefore, Guehi might not want to leave in mid-season.
The 26-year-old, valued at around £48m by Transfermarkt, is a top-class player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
