Arsenal eye move to sign Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal reportedly remain interested in signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu after struggling to find game time towards the end of last season.
Following Xabi Alonso’s arrival as the new manager, the Brazilian started the first game of the Club World Cup but struggled to find game time in the next few matches before being knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final.
Rodrygo even remained an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s opening La Liga game against Osasuna. Franco Mastantuano and Gonzalo García got the opportunity ahead of the former Santos man.
Now, Fichajes state that Rodrygo doesn’t want to spend the whole season on the bench at Real Madrid as he wants to secure his place in the Brazil squad for next year’s World Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that Rodrygo won’t receive the call-up if he doesn’t play regularly. Therefore, he is prepared to leave before the deadline.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
Arsenal are interested in him and have been monitoring his situation before making a potential swoop. Real Madrid initially wanted around £86m to let the 24-year-old leave with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
However, they are prepared to reduce the asking price and could accept at least £60m. Purchasing the forward won’t be straightforward for the Gunners, as Manchester City are also plotting a swoop.
Signing a new left-winger has been one of the objectives of the North London club in this transfer window, but following Kai Havertz’s knee injury, the need to sign a new forward has increased.
Rodrygo is a left-winger by trait but is also capable of playing on the opposite side. Furthermore, he can provide cover centrally if needed.
The South American is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create opportunities for fellow attackers, is excellent in taking set pieces, and also works hard without possession.
He is a top-class player and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window.
