Arsenal remain keen on signing Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze
Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have accelerated their efforts to reinforce the attacking department and are said to be in advanced talks with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres. The player is desperate to leave Jose Alvalade Stadium to take the next step in his career, and the Emirates Stadium is his preferred destination.
Moreover, the North London club have submitted a formal proposal worth around £50m to Chelsea to sign Noni Madueke after identifying him as the primary target to reinforce the flanks. The player has already agreed on a five-year deal with Mikel Arteta’s side.
Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano states that, along with Gyokeres and Madueke, Arsenal are also keen on purchasing Eze and have been in talks with the player’s representatives over this deal. The forward is eager to move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, the biggest obstacle in this move would be reaching an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace. The player has a £68m release clause in his current contract, and his existing deal is set to expire in less than two years, so Arsenal don’t want to sign him by triggering the clause.
Eze to Arsenal
Romano said:
“Noni Madueke remains a concrete option for Arsenal, an important target for Arsenal, but separate from the story regarding Eberechi Eze because, obviously, Eberechi Eze remains a target for Arsenal. In that case, I told you almost one week ago, Arsenal made contact with the agents of Eberechi Eze. That remains the case.
“Arsenal are speaking to the player. The player is keen on a move to Arsenal. So, Eberechi Eze remains one of the names on the shortlist. But before closing this deal, you need to talk to Crystal Palace, and that’s not an easy point. But, for sure, it’s a separate story from Noni Madueke, separate story also from Viktor Gyokeres.”
Arteta likes to have versatile players in his squad, and Eze is capable of playing multiple positions. He is comfortable in the CAM role and on the left flank; moreover, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role in a midfield three.
The Crystal Palace star has consistently proven his worth in the Premier League in the last two seasons, and at the age of 27, he is currently at the right stage of his career to take the next step.
Arsenal need experienced players like Eze to close the gap with Liverpool and finally win the Premier League title. Therefore, he would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his service in this transfer window.
