Arsenal have ‘considered’ signing Liverpool target Ekitike
Arsenal have reportedly ‘considered’ signing Liverpool target and Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike, as per journalist Charles Watts.
The Gunners want a new centre-forward in this transfer window, just like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea. The Blues have already signed Liam Delap, but they have still been continuously linked with the Frankfurt star.
The Reds have reportedly started working on a deal to sign Ekitike, and they are willing to secure his service as a potential replacement for Darwin Núñez. The Uruguayan was Liverpool’s record signing but struggled to play regularly under Arne Slot last term, and the Dutch boss is open to letting him leave.
Man Utd, on the other hand, have been linked with a host of names to bolster the No.9 position as they want to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who endured a dire campaign last term.
Delap was said to be their primary target, but Chelsea won the race for him. Viktor Gyokeres was on Ruben Amorim’s wishlist, but the player is willing to join Arsenal. So, they have registered their interest in Ekitike.
Now, on Caught Offside, Watts claims that Arsenal are prioritising signing Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko to bolster the centre-forward position, but have ‘considered’ Ekitike as a serious option as well.
Ekitike to Arsenal
The forward is valued at around £85m by Frankfurt, but the North London club have no intention of signing him by spending that much.
Watts said:
“We have heard rumblings from Germany this week of reported interest in Hugo Ekitike. I’m sure Arsenal have considered him, just like every other top club which is scouring the striker market, but I still believe that it’s Sesko and Gyokeres who are sitting at the top of the club’s list.
“Ekitike is a talent, that’s very clear, but the messages Frankfurt have been sending out this summer suggests they want a fee of around £85 million for the young Frenchman and I would be surprised if Arsenal went close to that for him.”
Ekitike has been attracting the attention of several big clubs, having displayed impressive performances last term, making 34 goal contributions in all competitions.
The Frenchman is a highly talented player and is still just 22. He possesses the potential to become a world-class striker in the future. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, Frankfurt’s £85m valuation is too inflated, and Arsenal would be better off signing Sesko or Gyokeres if Dino Toppmoller’s side don’t lower their asking price.
