Wilshere Provides Injury Update
It was a disappointing night for Arsenal last night as not only did we see our unbeaten run ended by a late sucker-punch goal from Robert Lewandowski to leave our qualification hopes hanging in the balance, but midfielder Jack Wilshere was also forced off with yet another ankle knock.
Wilshere appeared to pick up the injury after landing awkwardly towards the end of the first half and although he struggled on until the 58th minute, he was eventually replaced by Santi Cazorla.
After being sidelined for the best part of 18 months with various ankle problems, it’s easy to see why there were fears Wilshere had done some serious damage and could be set for a spell on the treatment table once again.
However, the 21-year-old has played down concerns over his fitness, insisting he simply jarred his ankle and was able to run it off within 5-10 minutes.
I jarred it [the ankle] when I was going through on goal,’ he explained.
‘My ankle stopped and my body went over it and I jarred it a little bit.
‘For five or ten minutes it was painful, then I ran it off, but it made sense to put ice on it.
‘I’ve done that before, even before I had surgery. It is just one of those things.
‘Obviously I will have treatment because it is still a bit swollen, but I should be all right for the weekend.’ [source: Metro]
Arsene said after the game that he took Jack off as you could see “he wasn’t right”, in reference to his ankle knock, but the midfielder seems confident it’s not serious so hopefully he’ll be able to feature against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
It’s vital we bounce back quickly following last nights set back and don’t let it ruin the excellent progress we’ve made this season.
