Arsenal have reportedly started ‘concrete’ talks with RB Leipzig over a possible deal for striker Benjamin Sesko, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old forward is now seen as a key target for Mikel Arteta as the club looks to add more quality in attack.
After another season of falling just short in the Premier League title race, Arsenal are focusing on improving key areas of their squad.
Arteta’s side finished second behind Liverpool and were once again left frustrated after the campaign.
A lack of cutting edge in front of goal was one of the key reasons behind their failure to lift the title.
The Gunners have been in the market for a natural striker and have looked at a few options in recent months.
Names like Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres have been discussed, but Sesko is now said to be their main target.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal made efforts to sign Sesko earlier in January and again in May 2024.
Both approaches were turned down by Leipzig, but talks have now taken a more serious shape with the summer window near.
Sesko enjoyed a strong season in Germany, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists in 45 matches across all competitions.
He is currently valued at around £55 million according to Transfermarkt.
Sesko fits Arteta’s style of play
Sesko is a quick, athletic forward who offers a strong physical presence in the final third.
He is also very clever with his movement and often makes smart runs in behind defenders or between the lines.
The Slovenian international is not only good in the air but also has great control with the ball at his feet.
His ability to hold the ball up, link play and press from the front makes him a good fit for Arsenal’s system.
The club see him as a long-term option who can lead the line and help them push for trophies in the coming seasons.
With the transfer window set to open soon, Arsenal are expected to step up talks and try to close a deal quickly.
