Injury blow: Arsenal star could miss next 6 games after scan results are revealed
According to the Daily Mail, Rob Holding could miss Arsenal’s next six matches in all competitions after scans showed he suffered a hamstring injury ahead of our defeat to Manchester City.
Holding was selected to start alongside Gabriel in the middle of defence on Saturday evening but was forced to pull-out of the match after feeling discomfort in his hamstring during the pre-match warm up.
David Luiz was drafted-in to replace Holding at the Etihad Stadium and we produced a decent display despite going down 1-0 thanks to a Raheem Sterling goal in the first half.
Mikel Arteta said after the game on Saturday that he didn’t know how serious Holding’s injury was and the centre-back was sent to have a scan on Monday to determine the full extent of the issue.
It’s not particularly good news as the Daily Mail says the scan results show damage to the hamstring and the club fear Holding is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines.
That diagnosis would see the 25-year-old ruled out until after the November international break with Holding missing Arsenal’s next six matches in all competitions.
The former Bolton ace is certain to sit out our trip to Austria to take on Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday night as well as Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City at the Emirates.
If he’s out for the full four weeks then Holding will also miss games against Dundalk, Manchester United, Molde and Aston Villa before hopefully being available for the trip to Leeds after the international break next month.
The news will come as a blow to Arsenal as Holding had just cemented himself as a regular in Arteta’s side having started in seven of our eight games so far this campaign.
With Pablo Mari still recovering from an ankle injury and Callum Chambers also still out, Arteta is low on centre-backs options. The boss may have to rush Shkodran Mustafi back from his injury or recall Sokratis – who’s been frozen out since March.
