Arsenal are being priced as massive 66/1 outsiders to win the 2020/21 title following a disappointing Premier League campaign this season.
The Gunners endured a nightmare opening few months which eventually lead to the dismissal of Unai Emery in November 2019 with the club languishing way down in mid-table. Mikel Arteta arrived in December to steady the ship and improved performances but consistent results were still hard to come by.
Arsenal were certainly more organised in defence under Arteta during the second half of the season but still finished eighth in the Premier League table – their worst final position for over 25 years.
With champions Liverpool finishing a whopping 43 points ahead, Arsenal were in-fact much closer to being relegated than winning the title so it’s no surprise the Gunners aren’t being considered as serious contenders for next season.
At the time of writing, many bookmakers and online casinos are offering odds of 66/1 for Arsenal to be crowned Premier League champions in 2021. This is their highest ever pre-season price since the Premier League began so it highlights just how much work Arteta has to do to get Arsenal challenging again.
Somewhat surprisingly, newly-crowned champs Liverpool are only 13/8 second-favourites, despite finishing 18-points clear of the competition this season. The bookies fancy Manchester City to reclaim the title as they are the even-money favourites to win next year.
Manchester United have enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent months so they are 15/2 third-favourites and are miles ahead of Arsenal in the latest odds so it’s clear the betting companies don’t see the north Londoners as serious challengers next season.
This may suit Arteta as Arsenal often perform well while being considered the ‘underdogs’ but the Spaniard will be desperate to build a strong squad this summer and surprise a few people over the next 12 months.
Arteta will need to strengthen his defence as Arsenal were poor at the back once again this season while he also need to add some creativity to his attack with Mesut Ozil falling out-of-favour. The Gunners are being linked with Willian and Philippe Coutinho and they would both be terrific signings if they could pull them off.
Keeping captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also vitally important as Arsenal have no chance of challenging at the top of the league next season without their talisman. Aubameyang scored 29 goals in 44 games this season and netted both goals to secure the FA Cup last weekend so Arsenal would be nowhere without the Gabon hitman.
