Team news update: Arsenal dealt major injury blow as 4 players miss West Ham clash

Arsenal have confirmed a major injury blow with the news that Lucas Torreira is facing an extended spell on the sidelines but Kieran Tierney is back in full training.
Torreira was stretchered off and replaced by Dani Ceballos during the early stages of Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Portsmouth in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday night after being on the wrong end of a strong challenge from James Bolton.
The Uruguayan international was seen leaving Fratton Park on crutches with a protective boot on his right foot so it looked as though the injury was serious. Quotes then emerged from South America attributed to Torriera that suggested the injury may not have been too serious as the player was quoted by ESPN as saying he was ‘fine’ and was able to move his ankle freely.
However, it appears that positivity was miss-placed as Arsenal have now confirmed Torreira has suffered a fractured ankle. He’ll see a specialist before any timeframe is put on his recovery but I think it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing the South American for a number of weeks.
It’s a big blow to lose Torreira and he’ll join Calum Chambers as one of Arsenal’s long-term absentees as the centre-back is facing up to nine months out with an ACL injury that he sustained back in December.
Elsewhere, Sead Kolasinac will miss the rest of the month with a shoulder injury that he picked up against Everton while Cedric Soares should return to full training next week as he looks to overcoming a knee problem that he’s been carrying since arriving from Southampton in January.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta will be without four players for the visit of West Ham on Saturday but Kieran Tierney could be back in the squad as he’s resumed full training after recovering from a should injury that’s hampered him since December.
The latest team news on Arsenal.com confirmed:
Calum Chambers
Left knee. Ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee during Chelsea (h) on 29 December. Successful surgery completed. Rehabilitation process expected to take between six to nine months.Sead Kolasinac
Right shoulder. Significant strain to right shoulder joint during Everton (h) on 23 February. Aiming to return to full training by the end of March.Cedric Soares
Left knee. Aiming to be in full training next week (w/c Monday 9 March).Kieran Tierney
Now back in full training.Lucas Torreira
Right ankle. Sustained fracture to right ankle during Portsmouth (a) on Monday. Awaiting further specialist reviews which will determine recovery plan.
