Arsenal submit £17.5m offer for exciting star, Emery determined to get deal agreed
According to Football Scotland, Arsenal have tabled an improved offer worth £17.5m plus £7.5m in add ons for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney with Unai Emery determined to land his top target.
We’ve been strongly linked with Tierney in recent weeks after Emery identified the 22-year-old as the man to resolve our issues at left-back as the boss looks to strengthen our defence following another poor campaign at the back.
Nacho Monreal – who turns 34 next year – has mainly been used in a back three with Sead Kolasinac favoured down the left flank last season. The Bosnian international was a danger going forward but defensively he was caught out on several occasions.
So Emery needs to sign a player who’s solid when playing in a back four but is also a threat in attack and Tierney is the man he wants, however, Celtic are playing hardball over a deal.
Having already knocked back an opening 15m offer, the Scottish champions have now rejected Arsenal’s improved offer worth £17.5m up front with a further £7.5m coming in performance based add-ons, according to Football Scotland.
The outlet says Celtic felt the add-ons were unrealistic as some stipulations involved Arsenal being successful in the Premier League and in Europe, so clearly they aren’t confident we’ll be challenging for top honours any time soon!
However, we aren’t going to give up without a fight as Football Scotland suggests Arsenal will test Celtic’s resolve with another offer soon as Emery is determined to sign Tierney after making him a prime transfer target.
The full-back is a boyhood Celtic fan having been with the club his entire career so no doubt it will be difficult for him to leave but the report says he’s open to joining Arsenal if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.
Emery only has around £45m to spend this summer so we have to be careful with our money but I think Tierney would be an exciting signing if we could lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
