Arsenal step-up interest in £22m international star as Emery looks to bolster squad

By on June 11, 2019

According to Turkish outlet Fotospor, Arsenal will step-up their interest in Dorukhan Tokoz by sending scouts to watch the £22m-rated Besiktas midfielder in action for Turkey this evening.

Unai Emery is expected to be a busy man this summer as we desperately need to overhaul an ageing squad that collapsed at the end of last season to finish fifth in the table and got thumped by Chelsea in the Europa League final.

A new midfielder is likely to be on the agenda as Aaron Ramsey is off to Juventus on a free transfer while the likes of Mo Elneny and Granit Xhaka are also being linked with moves away from the Emirates this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks but the latest player put forward by the media as a target is Dorukhan Tokoz with Fotospor claiming Emery is set to step-up his interest in the Besiktas midfielder.

The Turkish publication says the Arsenal boss was impressed by the 23-year-old’s performance during Turkey’s win over France on Saturday and will send scouts to watch him in action against Iceland this evening.

Tokoz only joined Besiktas from Eskişehirspor last year but he’s developed into one of the most exciting midfielders in Turkish football and he broke into the national team set-up earlier this year.

It appears his potential has caught the eye of Arsenal this summer and Fotospor claim it will take an offer of around £22m [€25m] to get a deal done with Besiktas. However, we aren’t the only club in the running as the report says Arsenal could face competition from the likes of Milan and Napoli for Tokoz’s signature if we formalise our interest.

Obviously Tokoz isn’t a household name and he wouldn’t be a marquee signing but Emery is working on a tight budget so this is the type of player I expect us to be linked with this summer.
