Arsenal in talks to sign Ligue 1 star as Emery eyes surprise swoop
According to L’Equipe, Arsenal are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign highly-rated midfielder Christopher Nkunku on loan until the end of the season.
Unai Emery has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his squad this winter but the Arsenal chief has admitted he has to look at the loan market as there is no money available for permanent deals this month.
A new attacking midfielder is on the agenda and we’ve seen a proposed deal to sign Barcelona’s Denis Suarez stall in recent days after refusing to accept their demand of an obligation to buy clause being included in the deal.
It seems Emery has now turned his attention to alternative targets as L’Equipe claim Arsenal are now in talks with PSG over a deal to sign Nkunku on loan until the end of the season with an option to make it permanent in the summer.
The French outlet says Nkunku is keen on making the move to north London but the proposed deal is contingent on PSG being able to sign a replacement before the end of the month.
The Ligue 1 champions missed out on Frenkie De Jong to Barcelona but there have been reports suggesting they have won the race to sign Leandro Paredes from Zenit St Petersburg.
Should that deal go through, then it would pave the way for Nkunku to join Arsenal where he’d be reunited with Unai Emery having worked with him during their time together at the Parc des Princes.
Emery gave the 21-year-old his big break at PSG as he featured 20 times last season but he’s struggled to establish himself under Thomas Tuchel this campaign having started just 5 Ligue 1 games.
Nkunku is comfortable playing in central midfield or on either wing so his versatility would be a useful asset if he does join Arsenal and he will know Matteo Guendouzi well from their time together playing for the France U21s, so he could help him settle in north London.

This deal is something of a surprise as it’s come from nowhere but Nkunku sounds like an exciting young talent so I’d be pleased to see him arrive at the Emirates this month.
