Arsenal keen on signing 22-year-old Italian [Sky Sports]

According to Sky Italia via Sky Sports News, Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Italian goalkeeper Emil Audero as a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.

Unai Emery is going to have to dip in to the market for a new keeper after Cech confirmed earlier this month that he will retire from football once his current contract expires at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old has fallen behind Bernd Leno in the Arsenal pecking order so has decided to bow out after achieving everything he wanted to achieve in the game during an illustrious career.

Cech’s exit will leave a void needing to be filled and Sky Sports sources at Sky Italia claim that Arsenal are interested in signing on-loan Sampdoria stopper Emil Audero.

The 22-year-old is contracted to Juventus but is currently enjoying an impressive season on loan at Sampdoria where he’s kept seven clean sheets in 20 Serie A games so far this campaign.

Audero came through the youth ranks at Juve after joining the club at 11-years-old but he’s struggled to break in to the first team having made just one appearance for Max Allegri’s side so far.

With Wojciech Szczesny and Mattia Perin in front of him, the Indonesian-born keeper isn’t likely to play much in Turin so he could be open to the idea of a fresh challenge in north London.

Audero has been capped by Italy at every youth level from Under-15 right through to Under-21 and he’s highly-rated in Serie A so he could prove to be a shrewd signing if we end up getting a deal agreed.
