[Photos] Arsenal handed huge boost as duo return to full training ahead of Liverpool
Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost as Shkodran Mustafi has taken part in full training ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool.
Mustafi has missed Arsenal’s last five games in all competitions since picking up a hamstring injury against Huddersfield but he resumed light individual training at London Colney earlier this week.
Unai Emery confirmed at his pre-match press conference yesterday that Mustafi could put himself in contention to face Liverpool if he was able to return to full training on Friday.
It looks like the centre-back has been given the all-clear as Mustafi has been photographed taking part in full training with the rest of the squad in North London this afternoon
Mustafi’s return would provide Arsenal with a big boost as Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin are all set to miss the trip to Anfield so the German would give us another vital option in defence.
If Emery goes with a back three then we could see Mustafi line-up alongside Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny against the Premier League leaders but it will be interesting to see if Stephan Lichtsteiner keeps his place after his poor showing at Brighton.
In a double boost, Dinos Mavropanos was also back in full training today after recovering from a groin injury but the Greek youngster is unlikely to be considered against Liverpool having spent over two months on the sidelines.
There was obviously no Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Danny Welbeck at London Colney today as they continue to recover from serious injuries but the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Iwobi were among those to train today as they look for recalls at Anfield.
