3-4-1-2: Mustafi & Ramsey start | Arsenal’s strongest line-up to face Liverpool

Arsenal need to get a positive result when we take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening. This is the line-up I’d like Unai Emery to select…

Goalkeeper: Leno

Leno didn’t exactly cover himself in glory for the Brighton goal on Boxing Day and his inconsistent form is certainly a worry. However, I think we need to stick by him and hopefully he gets back to showing us what he’s capable of against Liverpool – because we’ll need a top class performance from him if we’re to get anything from the game.

Defence: Monreal, Sokratis, Mustafi

It looks like we’ve been handed a major boost as Mustafi is back in full training after recovering from a hamstring injury so as long as he’s declared fully fit, then I think he should come in to the back three alongside Sokratis.

Emery didn’t give any update on Monreal’s condition at his pre-match press conference after he missed the draw at Brighton with a tight hamstring. It remains to be seen whether Nacho will be fit to face Liverpool but if he is then I’d start him on the left of the back three to give us more balance. If Monreal is out, then Koscielny should start.

Midfield: Kolasinac, Torreira, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles

Torreira came through the Brighton game without being booked so he’s free to start in midfield and I hope he lines-up alongside Granit Xhaka. They had a great partnership developing before Emery tinkered with his system so let’s get them back together.

Guendouzi is a huge talent and no doubt he has a big future ahead of him but I think Arsenal are relying on his too much and his form’s dipped so let’s give the teenager a rest and not put too much pressure on him.

Attack: Ramsey, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Ozil was hooked at half-time against Brighton after barely getting out of first gear during the opening forty-five minutes so it’s difficult to make a case for him starting away to Liverpool. We just can’t carry him in such a tough game.

Therefore, I’d like to see Ramsey given a chance in behind the front two. Emery will probably go with Iwobi and just one up front but I think we HAVE to start Aubameyang and Lacazette together and Ramsey could have a lot of joy playing off them in attack.

Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for six weeks with a fractured metatarsal so we can’t exactly go with two wide players [Mkhi and Iwobi] like Emery has done on occasion this season, so let’s go with Auba/Laca up front and Rambo in behind.

Here is the side I hope we’ll see:
