Arsenal set sights on landing £35m star as Emery identifies 6th summer signing

According to EIDesmarque, Arsenal have set their sights on signing Sevilla’s £35m-rated midfielder Steven N’Zonzi as Aaron Ramsey edges closer to the Emirates exit door.

Ramsey has just one year left on his contract and we’re yet to reach an agreement with his camp over an extension so rumours are mounting that he could be set for a late move away from the club.

Arsenal chiefs are keen to avoid a similar situation that saw Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil head in to last season with just one year on their contracts and the club don’t want to make the same mistake with Ramsey.

If a deal isn’t struck soon, it’s reported Arsenal will look to cash-in with EIDesmarque claiming around £30m-£35m would be enough to persuade us to sell with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona sniffing around.

The Spanish publication says Emery has already found his replacement and Arsenal are now hoping to secure a deal to sign N’Zonzi before the transfer slams shut on Thursday evening.

N’Zonzi has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and EIDesmarque claim we’ll use the money raised from Ramsey’s sale to fund our swoop for the French international.

The Mirror reported last week that N’Zonzi has a £35m release clause in his contract and the 29-year-old is holding out for Arsenal to make their move amid rival interest from Roma.

I’m not too sure how I feel about these rumours. Ramsey has been a key player for us over the past few years and I’d love to see him sign a new contract and go on to become a club legend.

However, if he doesn’t commit his future over the coming days I wouldn’t blame the club for cashing-in but I think Ramsey is worth more than the £30m-£35m being suggested in the media. Surely in today’s market he’s got to be worth at least £50m even with a year left on his deal?

Either way, if we do sell we need a replacement and it seems N’Zonzi is the man Emery wants as they worked together at Sevilla and the 6ft 5in Frenchman would add some height alongside 5ft 6in Lucas Torreira in midfield.

N’Zonzi has previous experience in the Premier League having played for Stoke and Blackburn so he wouldn’t need a lot of time to adapt to life in England and he’d become our sixth summer signing if Arsenal did snap him up before Thursday night.
