Arsenal in surprise move to sign world class attacker – reports
According to reports in Spain via the Daily Star, Arsenal were determined to sign Gareth Bale after making a sensational move to sign the Real Madrid star but it doesn’t look like the Welshman will be coming to the Emirates any time soon.
Arsene Wenger has already shown his intent in the transfer market after breaking the clubs transfer record to snap-up French international striker Alexandre Lacazette in a £52m deal.
However, the boss is still looking to further strengthen the squad and a new left-sided attacker may be needed amid on-going doubts surrounding the future of Alexis Sanchez.
Despite Wenger insisting he won’t be sold, our Chilean super-star is still being tipped to leave after failing to agree terms over a new contract and it looks like the boss is lining-up potential replacements.
And it appears Wenger has a very ambitious target in mind as the Daily Star are citing a report from Don Balon that claims Arsenal have made an audacious approach to buy Gareth Bale.
The Spanish publication says we were determined to pull off what would have been a sensational deal as Wenger saw Bale as the ideal man to replace Sanchez in our attack.
However, sadly Bale put the stoppers on any potential move as the newspaper says the Welsh international made it clear he won’t be joining Arsenal because we can’t offer him Champions League football.
Who knows how much truth there is behind this report as there is so much speculation these days but obviously it would have been a major coup if we’d have managed to land Bale.
Losing Alexis would be devastating but having Bale replace him would certainly have softened the blow, that’s for sure, as he’s arguably in the top 5 players in the world right now.

However, it was a move that was always going to fail so it’s no surprise to hear Bale turned us down. Not being in the Champions League is bad enough but I don’t think he’d consider moving to the Emirates anyway due to his Tottenham links.
