Arsenal make record £300k p/w offer to secure £50m attacker
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have made a sensational move to secure the future of Alexis Sanchez by offering the attacker a record £300,000-a-week contract.
Sanchez is approaching the final year of his deal and widespread reports in recent weeks have suggested he has made up his mind to leave the club in search of a new challenge.
Until now, we’ve not come close to matching his wage demands and Alexis is also concerned by our competitiveness on the pitch – which isn’t a surprise given how badly our season has imploded.
With our Chilean super-star seemingly set on leaving, the Evening Standard claim that Arsenal chiefs have slapped a £50m asking price on his head, despite the fact he’ll only have one year on his deal.
It was looking like we were consigned to losing the 28-year-old but it seems we’ve now made a bold move to try and persuade Sanchez to stay and commit his future to the club.
The Evening Standard claim that we’ve now offered Alexis a whopping contract worth £300,000-a-week – which would make him the highest earner in the Premier League, topping Paul Pogba’s £290,000-a-week.
The newspaper says Arsenal’s hierarchy are fearful of losing our best player and have now decided to shatter our wage structure to try and keep the South American in north London.
The latest offer is understood to include Arsenal retaining a large portion of Sanchez’s image rights, which would allow the club to claw back much of the weekly wage in sponsorship agreements.
Sanchez is yet to respond to the offer but he recently said he is happy in London but wants to be playing for a winning team, so understandably he’s probably waiting to see how the season finishes and what our plans are this summer before committing to anything.
There is also a slight concern about Alexis’s relationship with some of his team mates following reports of bust-ups in training but that type of thing happens at every club and players are experienced enough to kiss and make up.
If the club have offered Sanchez £300,000-a-week then we couldn’t have done anything more to persuade him to stay. If he turns it down and decides to leave, then so be it. We can’t really blame him for wanting to be at a club challenging for top honours as we’ve shown again this year we’re nowhere near.
If Sanchez has faith in the manager [whoever that may be in the summer] and our transfer plans, then he’ll stay. Otherwise, I expect a fierce battle over his signature. Let’s just pray we manage to sell him abroad if he does go.
